    Description

    John Barrymore (1882-1942)
Barrymore was an American actor on stage, screen and radio.  A member of the Drew and Barrymore theatrical families.
He debuted on Broadway in 1903 and in films in 1914.  With talkies, Barrymore's days as a romantic lead had passed but his exquisite voice
    and
superb bearing guaranteed him stronger film roles than he had in silent pictures.  Heavy drinking contributed to his early death at the age of 60.
An Original 1916 Serge De Diaghileff's Ballet Russe Souvenir Programs with Prints by Leon Bakst and others.  This was the first American tour of the Ballet Russe, featuring a cover illustration of Nijinsky in Schehereazde by Robert Montenegro and many full-color costume designs and other illustrations by Leon Bakst and others.  The contents also include photographs of Nijinsky in Spectre de la Rose, Bakst's Nijinsky a Faun, Adolf Bolm, Flore Revalles and groups of dancers in Scheherezade, Prince Igor, and L'Apres-Midi d'un Faune; ballet descriptions, and advertisements.
Fourteen full pages with color plates, eight duotone plates of dancers in costume.
Program has five pages of ads for Fatima Cigarettes, Baldwin Pianos, the Columbia Grafonola, Cecil B. De Mille's film, 'Joan of Arc' and Dubonnet Wine.
Pages are of thick ivory uncoated paper, cover is thick mottled brownish paper, with faint embossed gold art and letters.
This is a particularly rare copy, in that it features the superb illustration of Nijinsky in Scheherezade by Robert Montenegro on the cover.
