    Autographed matte, doubleweight original Frank Bangs of New York 6" x 8" photograph of the German-Jewish Golden Age lyric soprano, November, 1910.
    Alten (1877-1962) had a good career in Germany, but her fame rose when she came to the MET in 1904.  She married in 1914 and curtailed her opera career, but sung on the radio through 1936.  She escaped with her husband to London in 1936 and lived the rest of her days there.
