I am pleased to offer this Antique 1851 Whaling Iron, Brass, and Stag Horn Knife!  This is truly a one of a kind piece!
This large knife has a curved iron blade that folds into the thick stag horn covered handle.  The top of the knife is fitted with brass, and is engraved with "1851" above a whaling tool symbol, and on the other side "The New Bedford Belle".
The bottom of the knife is fit with a thick piece of brass, which has a depiction of whalers scrimshawed into the base (see photos!)
The New Bedford Belle was a whaling ship built by Arvin Cannon who, along with his four brothers, was one of the finest ship carpenters of the time.  (New Bedford, Massachusetts.)
The knife comes with its original leather belt holster, which is riveted with copper.
This is a particularly rare piece, and could be displayed in a museum!
